I write this blog to remember those who suffered under the Nazi Regime. Although we were allowed to take pictures at the concentration camps, I, along with others have decided not to as a sign of respect for those that endured suffering beyond our imagination.
Before leaving Poland yesterday, our tour group stopped at both the Auschwitz and Birkenau camps. It is very hard to describe the feeling of walking through the gates of the concentration camps, but those who have been here or who have read a lot about this period in history will know exactly what I mean. It was a mixture of anger, sadness and sorrow.
What really hit home for me was this one display which was probably about ten metres wide and three metres deep. This was a display of human hair-girls human hair. To be told this was only a fraction of what was found really made me think of all the suffering that the children went through. What even angered me more was to find out that the hair was used to make clothes for the soldiers. Can you imagine how these parents felt when they saw their children dragged to the gas chambers?
So, to all those that suffered I hope you find peace. To all the men who worked in harsh condition, may you enjoy that cold beer in heaven. To the women, may you find time up in gods land to enjoy the long chats. To all the children, may you find peace and may laughter be with you always.
Let us not forget what happened.
